This series of thirteen mini-documentaries, each clocking in at less than ten minutes, presents a plethora of information on topics ranging from archaeological discoveries to historical battles.
"The Treasures of Tutankhamen" takes viewers into the tomb of Egyptian royalty in what is considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time, the unearthing of the corpse of Tutankhamen, more popularly known as King Tut.
"Mt. Everest: The First Climb to the Top of the World" covers the first successful expedition to the peak of Mount Everest, achieved in 1953 by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. "Gettysburg: The Bloodiest Battle" recaps the strategies of Generals Robert E. Lee and George Meade during the three-day battle in 1863 in which the Civil War reached a turning point after two excruciating years of bloodshed.
"The Riddle of the Dead Seas Scrolls" takes viewers to Qumran, Jordan, and tracks the discovery of ancient fragmented scrolls dating back thousands of years to Biblical times. A treasure to archaeologists and Biblical scholars, the scrolls provide some insight into religious history while raising questions about their authors and content. "Mystery of the Lost Ark" continues on the Biblical theme by taking audiences to Jerusalem for a history of the Lost Ark of the Covenant, an artifact said to have been handed down to Moses by God Himself.
"The D-Day Invasion" explores Normandy, France, and the beachfronts that played an integral role in allowing Allied troops to invade Nazi-occupied territory, ultimately setting in motion the events that would bring about the end of World War II. "The Titanic: Disaster in the Atlantic" is a dramatic retelling of the final hours of the doomed ship Titanic and the warnings that failed to prevent one of sea travel's greatest tragedies.
"The Panama Canal: Against All Odds" features the construction of the Panama Canal, a task that was considered insurmountable by many but brought to fruition through the leadership of President Teddy Roosevelt. "Pearl Harbor: Day of Infamy" covers the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, the instigating assault that drew the United States into World War II.
"Pompeii's Day of Destruction" reenacts the daily life of unsuspecting ancient Romans shortly before and during the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius. "The Taj Mahal: A Love Story" shares the romantic influence behind the construction of the monument, which was erected by emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife.
"Tragedy of Anne Boleyn" recounts the life of a young woman pursued by King Henry VIII, their tumultuous relationship and her ultimate persecution and beheading at the hands of the men in her life. "The Last Days of the Romanov Dynasty" tells the story of the last imperial dynasty to rule over Russia before being overthrown in 1917.
Glorious Triumphs and Great Tragedies traverses the globe in these historical vignettes, providing viewers with short, information rich lessons that combine archival footage and creative re-enactments to paint effective micro-portraits of their given topic.
